Trump in Davos: No force for Greenland, seeks 'immediate talks'

Switzerland - Ekhbary News Agency

Addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, U.S. President Donald Trump firmly ruled out using military force to acquire Greenland, stating his desire for its "ownership" for "strategic, national security, and international security" reasons. Trump called for "immediate negotiations" to secure U.S. "right, title, and ownership" of the island, noting that the U.S. has been trying to acquire it for "two centuries" and describing it as a "big beautiful piece of ice" that the U.S. alone can defend.

The President humorously noted that his stance on Greenland might be his "biggest statement," as many anticipated he would resort to force. "I don't have to use force, I don't want to use force, I won't use Force," he emphasized, clarifying that the U.S. is simply asking for Greenland.

Economic Boasts and Green Energy Scrutiny

Trump also used his platform to tout significant policy achievements from the first year of his hypothetical second term. He claimed to have removed over 270,000 bureaucrats from federal payrolls, marking the largest single-year reduction in government employment since World War II. He further asserted that federal spending was cut by $100 billion, slashing the federal budget deficit by 27% in a single year.

Discussing trade, Trump asserted that tariffs had radically reduced the U.S. trade deficit, which he described as "the largest in world history," previously exceeding $1 trillion annually. He stated that within one year, the monthly trade deficit was slashed by a "staggering 77%" with "no inflation," something he claimed was considered impossible.

The President launched a strong critique of what he termed the "green new scam," particularly targeting wind turbines. He argued that due to his "landslide election victory," the United States avoided the "catastrophic energy collapse" that befell European nations pursuing similar policies. He sarcastically questioned why China, which he said "makes almost all of the windmills," doesn't have wind farms, implying their strategy involves selling to "stupid people" who buy them but don't use them.

In a lighter moment, Trump elicited laughter from the Davos audience by referencing French President Emmanuel Macron's well-publicized aviator sunglasses, playfully asking, "What the hell happened?" He later added that he likes Macron, suggesting this might surprise many.

Regarding domestic policy, Trump hinted at being close to appointing a new Federal Reserve chairman, describing the candidate as "somebody that's very respected." However, he added with a touch of cynicism, "The problem is they change when they get the job."
