MTS Enhances LTE Network in Rural Russia's Historic Villages

Russia - Ekhbary News Agency

MTS, a leading Russian telecommunications provider, announced the expansion of its LTE network coverage to 16 settlements in the Kirov region, including the ancient village of Sovye and 15 other small communities. The modernization of telecom equipment has doubled mobile internet speeds for over 4,500 residents in the region, enhancing their access to digital services.

Sovye, one of the oldest villages in the region, officially dates back to 1615. In the 18th century, the stone Saviour's Church was erected there in the unique 'Vyatskoye Baroque' style. The MTS LTE network has also been deployed in the village of Adzhim, which will celebrate its 412th anniversary this year. Historically, Adzhim was known for hosting large multi-day fairs, one of which, the Tikhonovsky fair, still exists today.

The upgraded MTS telecom equipment has also been installed in the villages of Mosuny, Nikulyata, Zonikha, Karpushino, Krasnopolye, Chus, Molotnikovo, Lekma, Shalegovo, Obukhovo, Lopyal, Korlyaki, and Lozhkari. This upgrade enables residents to comfortably make video calls, work online, utilize educational platforms, and access digital services, even during peak network load times.

"We are systematically continuing our digitalization efforts in the region. Launching the network in sparsely populated rural areas is a significant contribution to creating a seamless digital environment where every resident, regardless of their place of residence, has equal opportunities for communication, remote work, and access to educational resources," stated Alexey Bykov, Director of the MTS branch in the Kirov region.

These works were carried out as part of an investment project agreement signed in 2025 between MTS and the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of the Kirov region, aimed at developing communication and internet access in villages and rural areas.
