Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed profound disappointment following his team's unexpected 2-1 home loss to Bournemouth, labeling the result a "big punch in the face." The defeat squandered a golden opportunity for the Gunners to extend their lead at the Premier League summit to 12 points, now handing a significant advantage to rivals Manchester City. "We did a lot of strange things today, we were very far from the level that we're expecting," Arteta stated to TNT Sports, acknowledging Bournemouth's impressive 11-game unbeaten streak prior to the match. "It's extremely disappointing. It's a big punch in the face. It's about how we react now."
This loss marks Arsenal's third defeat in their last four matches across all competitions, a stark contrast to their previous dominance this season. The Emirates Stadium crowd voiced their displeasure with boos at the final whistle. Arteta, however, refrained from criticizing individual players, emphasizing the need for collective resilience. "We need everybody fit and available. The ones that were not involved today are really big, important players, and we need them immediately with us because then we're going to be much stronger," he added, looking ahead to crucial upcoming fixtures against Sporting CP and Manchester City.
