Betting Buzz: Seahawks Tied with 10 Others for Highest Win Total

The world of sports betting is intricately linked to the unfolding narratives of athletic competition. From season-altering injuries to record-breaking performances and everything in between, the news cycle invariably shapes and significantly impacts the sports betting industry. Our regular 'Betting Buzz' feature, drawing insights from contributors like David Purdum and Doug Greenberg, aims to offer fans a glimpse into the sports betting stories that are currently generating the most conversation.

With the 2026-27 NFL season still a considerable distance away, DraftKings Sportsbook has already released its initial season win totals. Remarkably, no team has been assigned a win total of 11 or higher, indicating a broad sense of parity across the league in the eyes of oddsmakers. The highest threshold currently set is 10.5 wins, a mark shared by eleven different franchises. This level of uniformity at the top is notable; the last time the NFL season kicked off without a team projected for 11 or more wins was during the 2016-17 season, according to historical data from SportsOddsHistory.com.

Among the teams sharing the highest projected win total are three from the competitive NFC West division. This group includes the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks. Despite their dominant playoff run and decisive victory in the championship game against the New England Patriots, oddsmakers at DraftKings have not differentiated them significantly from a substantial portion of the league. The Patriots themselves also opened at 10.5 wins, but this figure saw a downward adjustment to 9.5 wins by Thursday, potentially reflecting market adjustments or team-specific concerns.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins are projected for the lowest win totals in the league, both set at 4.5. This significant disparity underscores the wide range of expectations for different teams heading into the upcoming season. The NFL offseason is already buzzing with activity, with free agency set to commence on March 11, followed by the NFL Draft from April 23-25 in Pittsburgh. The release of the regular-season schedule in the subsequent weeks will provide further clarity and likely influence betting markets.

Beyond the gridiron, the National Basketball Association (NBA) is also gearing up for its All-Star Game, which will feature a new format. This revamped event is expected to generate considerable interest from bettors, particularly given the unique team compositions. According to DraftKings odds, the 'World' team is the favorite to win the tournament at +160. The 'USA Stripes' are listed at +175, and the 'USA Stars' at +200. In initial matchups, 'World' is favored by 2.5 points over 'Stars' and 1.5 points over 'Stripes'. 'Stripes' are also favored by 1.5 points against 'Stars'.

The betting landscape for the NBA All-Star Game could have seen 'World' as an even larger favorite, but the absence of key players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander due to injury, along with Stephen Curry from the 'Stripes' team, introduces an element of uncertainty. Despite these absences, bettors have shown strong support for the international contingent. At DraftKings, the 'World' team has captured the majority of tournament winner bets (62%) and handle (77%). BetMGM reports similar trends in ticket volume (71% for 'World'), although 59.7% of the money wagered on their platform is on the 'Stripes' team.

Johnny Avello, Director of Sportsbook Operations at DraftKings, commented on the new format to ESPN, stating, "I think for us, it gives us some options for the game and makes it a little bit different, stirring it up a little bit. It's kind of refreshing and I think it'll create business." This sentiment highlights the industry's optimism regarding the potential for increased engagement and revenue generated by innovative event structures.

Individually, San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama is the standout favorite for All-Star Game MVP, listed at +425 odds at DraftKings. He has also attracted the most wagers (36.7%) and handle (55.3%) at BetMGM. The sportsbook has also observed significant betting action on Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown, prompting a notable odds shift from +2000 at the opening to +900, indicating a surge in confidence from bettors.
