Music streaming platform Deezer has revealed a significant shift in content creation, announcing that 44% of all new music uploaded to its service is now generated by artificial intelligence. This surge in AI-generated tracks presents a challenge, as Deezer also identified that the overwhelming majority of streams for this content are not from genuine listeners but are part of fraudulent activity aimed at generating illegitimate revenue. The company has developed sophisticated proprietary technologies to analyze and label AI-produced music, distinguishing it from human compositions.
Daily, approximately 75,000 AI-generated music tracks are uploaded to Deezer. However, the platform's analysis indicates that actual human listening accounts for only 1% to 3% of the total streams for this content. Deezer has taken measures to combat this, withholding revenue from roughly 85% of these suspect streams. The company assures users that authentic listeners are unlikely to encounter AI music organically, as it is excluded from editorial playlists and recommendation algorithms. Deezer's AI detection capabilities boast an error rate below 0.01%, and user tests show that 97% of people cannot differentiate AI music from human-created tracks. Despite these efforts, the proliferation of AI music tools like Suno and Udio continues to accelerate globally.
