In a significant recruiting coup for the Michigan Wolverines, four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati has announced his commitment to the program, just a day after decommitting from Illinois. Lopati, a highly touted 6-foot-3 passer from Salt Lake City and the No. 2 overall quarterback prospect in the 2027 cycle, represents a cornerstone addition for Michigan under first-year head coach Kyle Whittingham. This commitment is particularly notable as Lopati becomes the highest-ranked recruit to join the Wolverines since Whittingham's arrival late last year, signaling a strong start to his tenure.
Lopati's recruitment gained considerable momentum following an impressive junior season at Utah's West High School, where he threw for 2,671 yards and 34 touchdowns. Despite initially committing to Illinois in July 2025, his recent visits to several top programs, including Michigan, culminated in his decision to switch allegiances. The strong pre-existing relationships with Coach Whittingham and offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who both followed Whittingham to Michigan, played a pivotal role. Lopati expressed, "The relationship we had before was insane... They moved but they kept showing me their loyalty and all that. That really means something to me." His addition, alongside other promising talents like offensive tackle Sidney Rouleau and defensive end Recarder Kitchen, solidifies a promising 2027 class for the Wolverines as they build towards future success.
