Japanese entertainment company Toho has unveiled the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film Godzilla Minus Zero, which serves as a direct sequel to the Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One. The video showcases the legendary monster standing beside the Statue of Liberty and rampaging through New York, marking an intriguing turn for the narrative set in 1949, two years after the events of the first installment.
Familiar faces, including Koichi Shikishima and Noriko Oishi, the main characters from the previous film, also make appearances in the teaser. Godzilla Minus Zero was filmed specifically for IMAX format, utilizing the latest high-definition digital cameras, and its audio has been optimized for maximum audience immersion. Given that Godzilla Minus One secured an Oscar for Best Visual Effects, expectations for the sequel are exceptionally high. Takashi Yamazaki, who helmed the writing, directing, and visual effects for the first film, returns to the director's chair. The film is slated for release in Japan on November 3 and in the United States on November 6 of this year.
