Metropolitan Police in London reported the arrest of 212 people during a demonstration in Trafalgar Square. The protest was held in opposition to the British government's ban on the group Palestine Action. This event marks the first significant gathering since the UK's High Court declared the ban, which designated the pro-Palestinian group as a terrorist organization, unlawful in February. UK Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood has secured approval to challenge this ruling through an appeal.
Palestine Action, which accuses the UK government of complicity in what it describes as Israeli war crimes in Gaza, was initially banned under anti-terrorism legislation last July following alleged security breaches at a Royal Air Force base. During Saturday's protest, participants holding placards, wearing Palestinian scarves, and waving national flags engaged in a sit-in. The police stated via X that arrests were being made for 'showing support for a proscribed organisation'. Israel has consistently denied allegations of abuses in its Gaza operations.
