The National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Alexandria hosted General Nikolay Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Maritime Board, along with his delegation. The visit aimed to strengthen the scientific and technical partnership and shape the future of maritime cooperation between the two countries. Patrushev expressed his pleasure at visiting the institute, commending its leading global role and noting that Russia views it as a strategic partner in Africa.
Establishment of a Russian-Egyptian Maritime Studies Center
The visit concluded with an agreement to establish the "Russian-Egyptian Center for Maritime Studies" at the institute's headquarters. This center will serve as a regional platform for capacity building, transferring Russian maritime technology, and developing biodiversity protection strategies, integrating historical scientific expertise with digital transformation. Discussions covered strategic axes including marine exploration, technology transfer, AI applications in environmental studies, and developing fisheries projects.

Enhancing Cooperation in Environmental Protection and Navigation
The tour included visits to the heritage library and the Marine Risk Reduction Center, where early warning and monitoring systems for environmental crises were explained. Dr. Abeer Mounir, head of the institute, emphasized the deep historical relations between the two countries and presented the institute's vision for enhanced cooperation, focusing on exchanging expertise in deep-sea exploration, advanced technology transfer, and utilizing AI for aquaculture and marine environmental protection.
