Bernardo Silva's Defiant Message Ahead of Crucial Real Madrid Encounter

In a series of inspiring statements preceding the highly anticipated Champions League Round of 16 second leg, Portuguese star Bernardo Silva expressed his unwavering belief in Manchester City's ability to create another special night and turn the tables on Real Madrid. The reigning champions face an uphill battle after a 0-3 first-leg defeat in Spain, necessitating a significant victory to advance to the European quarter-finals.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Silva acknowledged the Spanish giants' immense quality but stressed that the support of the Etihad Stadium faithful would make anything possible in Tuesday's return leg. "This sport has taught us that many things can happen in a football match," the City captain stated. "Although the result in Madrid was very bad, we will fight until the end knowing it will be difficult."

City's Potential at the Etihad and Overcoming Challenges

Silva did not shy away from the difficulty of the task, pointing out the strength of the opponent and the poor first-leg result, but he emphasized the unique atmosphere of the Etihad Stadium. He continued: "The opponent is strong, and the result was not good, but at home, many things can happen, especially here at the Etihad. We will try to make that happen."

Silva admitted that his team has lacked consistency this season but affirmed the squad's latent capabilities. He explained: "We know what this team can do, but this season we lack consistency. We know we can reach that level, but we haven't been able to maintain it for enough games. If we perform at our usual level tomorrow, we know it's possible."

Recalling Past Triumphs at City's Fortress

Silva has a history of decisive moments at the Etihad over his nine seasons with City. Among the most notable are the thrilling 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in 2022, which secured the Premier League title, when City famously came back from two goals down to score three consecutive goals for an unforgettable win. Silva was also instrumental, scoring twice, in the emphatic 4-0 triumph over Real Madrid in 2023, a match many consider the best performance and result of the Pep Guardiola era.

The Portuguese midfielder indicated that an early goal in the second leg would be ideal, but he asserted that the team would maintain its belief in creating special moments regardless of when the goals arrive. Silva affirmed: "The earlier we score, the better, but whatever happens, it can happen. We know that in football, especially our team at home, we are capable of creating many chances within five, ten, or twenty minutes."

Focus on Attack, Defense, and Optimism Despite the Loss

Silva also cautioned against the danger of conceding goals: "Of course, if we score early, it will be better, but we also know that we cannot concede a goal because if that happens, the tie will be over. We will take some risks and fight for it."

Despite the first-leg loss, Silva drew some hope from re-watching the match. City started well at the Santiago Bernabéu before Federico Valverde's hat-trick gave Real Madrid a significant advantage. Silva believes the scoreline was far worse than the actual performance. He clarified: "I won't say they are weak; they beat us 3-0, so I won't use that word now."

Silva revealed: "When I went home, I was frustrated and wanted to watch the game. When I watched it again, I saw no reason why we should lose 3-0... The result was much worse than the performance, and of course, that means nothing, this is football, and everything seems very bad, but I don't think the performance was that bad."

Concluding his remarks, the City captain emphasized his faith in his teammates: "We have to believe that Erling Haaland will score, and when opponents get their chances, we have to believe that our defense will prevent them or that our goalkeeper will save them. Perhaps it is possible."
