Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has dismissed claims of corruption leveled by the Senegalese government, following the body's contentious decision to revoke Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and grant it to Morocco. Speaking in Morocco, Motsepe stated he welcomes and encourages any legal action alleging corruption within CAF, emphasizing the organization's transparency. He expressed confidence that the upcoming ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) would be respected and implemented.
Motsepe's remarks come at a critical juncture for CAF, particularly after its surprising move to overturn Senegal's 1-0 victory against hosts Morocco in the AFCON final. CAF cited match regulations regarding leaving the field of play as the reason for awarding a 3-0 win to Morocco. The Senegalese Football Federation has appealed CAF's decision to CAS, while the Senegalese government has called for an international inquiry into suspected corruption within the continental football body.
