Iran Vows to Continue Resistance Until US Regrets 'Grave Miscalculation'
Tehran, through its high-ranking officials, has declared its firm intention to persist in its resistance until the United States acknowledges its "grave miscalculation" in launching a war against the Islamic Republic. This strong declaration was made by Iran's chief security official, Ali Larijani, who characterized the decision to initiate conflict as "easy" but ultimately "unwinnable with a few tweets," a clear jab at US President Donald Trump. Larijani further asserted that Iran "will not relent" until the US comes to regret its actions.
These developments unfold against a backdrop of extremely heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf region. Reports indicate that approximately 30 German ships are currently detained, intensifying pressure on shipping companies and their crews amidst a lack of adequate military protection. Martin Kröger of the Association of German Shipowners issued a stark warning: "At the moment, please stay away from passages through the Strait of Hormuz."

On the military front, reciprocal strikes between Israeli and US forces on one side, and Iran and its allies on the other, continue unabated. News reports suggest that Israel and the United States have been conducting attacks on Iran for over a week. Following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was reportedly elected to succeed him. Since the onset of this conflict, Iran has been bombarding Israel and Gulf states with drones and missiles, leading to the emergence of a second front between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. It is important to note that some of the information circulating is difficult to independently verify, adding to the prevailing uncertainty.
In a separate incident, the US Central Command (Centcom) reported the crash of a US Air Force KC-135 tanker aircraft in western Iraq, confirming that rescue teams are actively engaged at the site. Centcom clarified that another aircraft involved in the mission landed safely and that the incident was not attributed to enemy fire or friendly fire. In a related development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the killing of a high-ranking Iranian nuclear scientist during Israeli strikes on Iran. He noted that this is not the first time Israel has targeted Iranian nuclear scientists, having done so previously during the twelve-day war last year. Netanyahu characterized the new Iranian leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, as a "puppet of the Revolutionary Guard" incapable of public appearances.
In Iraq, officials reported that at least six French soldiers were injured in a drone attack targeting a joint base of the Peshmerga forces and the French army in Makhmur, northern Iraq. No official statement has been released by France thus far.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) insists on maintaining its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that this action is in compliance with directives from the new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. The IRGC has urged all tankers and vessels navigating the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to adhere to Iranian regulations for their own safety. Furthermore, the IRGC intends to continue its attacks against US and Israeli targets in the region "with full force."
Regarding the health status of the new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's ambassador to Tunisia, Mir Massoud Hosseinian, stated that the new leader sustained only minor injuries during the attack that claimed his father's life, assuring that "it is not a serious injury, and he is recovering." However, his failure to appear publicly for his first statement as Supreme Leader fueled speculation about his health, particularly in light of Israeli intelligence assessments suggesting he was wounded during the attack on his father.
Domestically within Iran, the Israeli military reported conducting strikes against Basij militia checkpoints in Tehran, targeting what it described as "roadblocks and Basij members" recently observed in various parts of the capital. Prime Minister Netanyahu asserted that Iran "is no longer the same" after nearly two weeks of joint US-Israeli attacks, noting that the Revolutionary Guard and Basij forces have suffered severe blows. He disclosed speaking almost daily with US President Donald Trump, emphasizing their shared goal of preventing Iran from relocating its nuclear and missile projects underground. Netanyahu hinted that Israel could create conditions for regime change but stressed that the Iranian people must take to the streets. When questioned about Iran's new spiritual leader Mojtaba Khamenei and Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, Netanyahu quipped, "I wouldn't take out a life insurance policy on these leaders."

In Lebanon, reports indicate that two scientists were killed in an explosion near the only state university in Hadath, near Beirut. Lebanese President Michel Aoun condemned the attack as a "crime" and a violation of international law, identifying the victims as Dean of Science Hussein Bassi and Professor Mortada Srour. It remains unclear whether the university campus itself was the direct target. Netanyahu stated that these scientists were among those involved in the development of weapons of mass destruction, reiterating that Israel had previously targeted Iranian nuclear scientists.
