No Need to Fear, Daughters: CM Yogi's Message to 'Nari Shakti' on International Women's Day

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath marked International Women's Day on Sunday, March 8th, by releasing a powerful letter addressed to the women of the state. Shared across his social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), the letter served as a profound message of empowerment, safety, and encouragement, urging women to shed fear and embrace their potential.

In his address to the 'respected citizens' of Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath underscored the paramount importance of women's role in building a robust society. He reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to ensuring the security, dignity, and self-reliance of the 'half population.' This statement sets a strong foundation for the subsequent points, emphasizing a policy-driven approach to gender equality and empowerment.

Reflecting on the past, the Chief Minister recalled a time before 2017 when daughters often felt apprehensive stepping out after dusk, and even commuting to schools and colleges was fraught with fear. He acknowledged that crimes against women were commonplace, painting a stark picture of the challenges faced by women. However, he contrasted this with the present scenario, where women are confidently working in night shifts, a transformation he attributed to 'clear policy and clean intent.' This shift signifies a tangible improvement in the state's safety and security landscape for women.

The letter highlighted the impact of specific government initiatives, such as 'Mission Shakti' and the 'Anti Romeo Squad' campaign. These programs, CM Yogi stated, have instilled fear in the minds of those who perpetrate crimes against women and girls. He emphasized a fundamental principle: 'Where daughters are safe and respected, society progresses continuously.' This statement links women's safety directly to the overall development and progress of the community, advocating for a holistic approach to societal well-being.

Further elaborating on the government's support systems, the Chief Minister mentioned the 'Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana.' This scheme provides comprehensive support to daughters from birth through their education, acting as a constant companion in their journey. Additionally, the 'Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana' (Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme) has enabled dignified marriages for daughters from economically weaker families, offering them a sense of self-respect and security.

The letter also touched upon crucial public health initiatives. The 'Pushtahar Yojana' (Nutrition Scheme) focuses on providing better nutrition to pregnant and lactating mothers, thereby ensuring a healthier future generation. Complementing these efforts, the government has increased the pension amount for destitute women from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500, providing a vital financial safety net for vulnerable women.

CM Yogi attributed the positive outcomes – a significant reduction in the dropout rate among female students, unprecedented declines in maternal and infant mortality rates, and equal opportunities from education to employment – to these concerted government efforts. He proudly stated that Uttar Pradesh's 'Nari Shakti' (Women Power) is now creating a new chapter of self-reliance ('Swavalamban'). The opportunities for entrepreneurship are vast, spanning from 'Startup' initiatives to 'Udyami Credit Card' schemes, fostering economic independence.

The reach of self-help groups has been extended to all development blocks in the state. Approximately 50,000 'BC Sakhi' (Bank Correspondent Sakhi) are confidently managing financial transactions worth thousands of crores, enhancing financial inclusion in rural areas. Furthermore, initiatives like 'Lakhpati Didi' (Women achieving annual income of ₹1 lakh), 'Drone Didi,' 'Swasthya Sakhi' (Health Worker), and 'Surya Sakhi' (Solar Energy Worker) are not only empowering families economically but also making significant contributions to the state's economy. These examples showcase the multi-faceted role women are playing in Uttar Pradesh's development narrative.

Concluding his message, CM Yogi Adityanath stressed that respect for women should be paramount for the entire society. He invoked the ancient saying, 'Janani Janmabhumishcha Swargadapi Gareeyasi,' meaning 'Mother and Motherland are greater than heaven.' He directly addressed the daughters of Uttar Pradesh, urging them: 'You do not need to fear anyone, nor should you dream small.' He assured them that the government's various schemes are providing wings to their dreams. He called upon them to not just participate but to take a leading role in achieving the goal of a 'Developed Uttar Pradesh.' The letter concluded with heartfelt wishes to all residents on International Women's Day.
