Meta has rolled out a significant new feature, "Live Chats," to its Threads platform, designed to foster real-time engagement around live events. This functionality allows users to participate in dynamic conversations hosted within Threads' topic-specific communities, enhancing the platform's interactive capabilities.

Hosts have control over who can contribute and can share public links to join. Participants can share text messages, photos, videos, links, and emoji reactions. Even if a chat is at capacity, viewers can still follow along, react to messages, and vote in polls. Post-event, these chats remain accessible for viewing, with no community membership required to join. Meta is piloting this feature within the NBAThreads Community during the Playoffs, featuring notable hosts. The company plans a gradual rollout to more communities, with future enhancements like co-hosting and lock screen widgets on the horizon.
