Valve has announced a new, elaborate reservation system for its Steam Machine devices, aiming to streamline the preorder process while making it fairer and more resistant to bot exploitation. This method diverges from the previous $5 reservation system used for the Steam Deck, indicating a refined approach to product launches.

Understanding the Sign-Up Process and Key Dates

Starting today, prospective buyers can sign up for a chance to reserve a Steam Machine, selecting from four distinct options. Each option maintains its own sign-up list, and individuals are permitted to register for multiple lists if they wish. Furthermore, separate sign-up lists exist for each shipping region—North America, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Australia—with Valve automatically assigning users to their respective regional list. The sign-up period concludes on June 25th at 10 AM PT. Following this deadline, Valve will conduct a "one-time randomization" to determine the final reservation order. For what it's worth, this randomization is a crucial step to ensure equitable distribution.

Eligibility Criteria and Purchase Details

To qualify for a reservation, applicants must possess a Steam account in good standing and have completed a purchase on Steam prior to April 27th, 2026. Valve enforces a strict limit of one sign-up per household, utilizing payment and shipping information to prevent duplicate entries. Initial reservation emails are scheduled for dispatch on June 29th, granting successful registrants 72 hours to finalize their Steam Machine purchase. Those who do not secure a reservation will be placed on a waitlist, which also automatically accommodates registrations made after June 25th.
