Double Fine, the game studio led by Tim Schafer and beloved for its offbeat titles, is experiencing a notable resurgence after a period of perceived struggles following its acquisition by Microsoft in 2019. For years, its only new release was the long-awaited sequel to Psychonauts. However, the studio has recently hit its stride, releasing the wonderfully strange game "Keeper"—about a sentient lighthouse—last year. This week, Double Fine launched "Kiln," a multiplayer brawler featuring adorable spirits and a unique pottery theme.
"Kiln" represents another distinctive delight from Double Fine, offering a four-on-four competitive gameplay experience where teams gather water to extinguish the opposing team's kiln. Players control cute floating spirits that inhabit pottery, which function as character classes with varying attributes. A standout feature allows players to sculpt their own pots using a virtual pottery wheel, adding a layer of tactical customization. This simple yet chaotic core gameplay, combined with interactive level designs, provides a fast-paced and engaging experience, further solidifying Double Fine's reputation for quirky and creative titles.
