Matteo Arnaldi, the world No. 35 Italian tennis player, saw his journey at the ATP 250 Eastbourne tournament end abruptly in the first round. He was defeated by British wildcard Giles Hussey, ranked 293rd globally, in a decisive two-set match, 6-4, 6-2. This marks a disappointing start to his grass-court season.
Arnaldi's Return and Hussey's Ascent
Arnaldi's participation followed a recovery from a virus that forced him to withdraw from the Roland Garros semi-final against Flavio Cobolli. Despite successfully navigating two qualifying rounds at Eastbourne, his main draw debut proved challenging. Hussey, for what it's worth, continued his impressive run, securing a third consecutive victory without dropping a set, having previously overcome James Duckworth and Marco Trungelliti in the qualifiers.

Looking Ahead to Wimbledon
Hussey is now set to face Quentin Halys in the second round, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser. Arnaldi, meanwhile, will shift his focus to Wimbledon, where he is slated to be the 32nd seed. The Italian will undoubtedly aim to rebound from this early exit on the grander stage.
