Cooking oil prices in Egyptian markets witnessed a notable increase today, Thursday, June 25, 2026. Reports from the Government Portal for Local and Global Commodity Prices indicated significant hikes affecting key types such as sunflower and corn oil. This development, it's clear, adds further strain on household budgets already grappling with economic pressures.

Details of the Oil Price Hikes

The government report specified that the average price for a liter of sunflower oil reached 99 EGP, marking a two-pound increase, with prices ranging from 60 to 121 EGP per liter. "Sleight" brand sunflower oil's average liter price climbed to 103 EGP, up by one pound, fluctuating between 80 and 125 EGP. Corn oil's average price rose by 3 EGP to 120 EGP, with its range spanning 85 to 145 EGP. Furthermore, "Crystal" brand corn oil averaged 123 EGP, an increase of 1.5 EGP, selling between 90 and 145 EGP per liter.

Subsidized Alternatives Provided

To mitigate the impact on citizens, the Holding Company for Food Industries introduced a new 1.5-liter subsidized cooking oil package at 56 EGP in December 2025. Additionally, 800 ml and 700 ml subsidized oil packages remain available at 30 EGP and 27 EGP, respectively. These options aim to offer diverse alternatives, accommodating various consumer needs amidst the rising market prices.
