Jaylen Brown Calls for Celtics to Move Past Lopsided Loss to Hornets
Boston Celtics' star player Jaylen Brown is urging his team to swiftly put Wednesday's substantial 118-89 defeat against the Charlotte Hornets in the rearview mirror. This loss marked the most lopsided outcome for the Celtics in the current 2024-25 NBA season, serving as a significant speed bump for a team that has otherwise been performing at a high level.
Following the game, as reported by Justin Turpin of WEEI, Brown candidly admitted that the team's performance was not indicative of their usual standard. He specifically highlighted the opponent's superior energy, a factor that has rarely been an advantage for opposing teams against the Celtics this season. Brown, who contributed 20 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, and seven assists, embraced accountability for the disappointing outing.

"Flush it," Brown stated emphatically. "Today wasn't characteristic of us. That wasn't Celtic basketball. They had more energy than us. That hasn't happened a lot all season long. Today wasn’t the best example of Celtic basketball, and we all can be better. And being a leader, I take accountability." This sentiment underscores a commitment to self-reflection and team-wide improvement, even amidst a challenging defeat.
The Celtics, who have been enjoying a strong run with 12 wins in their last 15 games, struggled offensively and defensively against the Hornets. While Derrick White put up an impressive 29 points, he found little consistent support from his teammates. No other Celtics player reached double-digit scoring, a clear indicator of the offensive struggles. The team shot a mere 38% from the field and converted only 10 of their 28 three-point attempts, further illustrating their offensive inefficiency.
This recent blowout loss is part of a pattern of significant defeats this season, with the Celtics having been outscored by a combined 70 points across three such games. However, the team has demonstrated resilience in bouncing back from previous heavy losses. Notably, after a 111-89 defeat to the New York Knicks, they responded with a dominant 19-point victory over the Chicago Bulls. Similarly, following a 103-84 loss to the Denver Nuggets, they bounced back with a resounding 148-point performance against the Brooklyn Nets.
Despite the setback, Brown remains optimistic about the team's overall trajectory. He expressed confidence in their progress, stating, "I feel great. I feel like we haven't skipped any steps. We've played the game the right way, made the right plays, played unselfishly, played together. So, I'm proud of where we're at. We just got to keep it up. Every game is an opportunity to learn and get better. Tonight is no different.”
