NASA has officially announced the crew for the Artemis II mission, signifying the first human voyage to the Moon in five decades. The four-person crew includes NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, alongside Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency. This historic lunar flyby is scheduled for November 2024, representing a significant leap forward in deep space exploration.

Reid Wiseman, a veteran astronaut and former Chief of the Astronaut Office, will command the mission. Victor Glover, who has experience on the International Space Station and piloting SpaceX's Crew Dragon, emphasized that Artemis II is a crucial step towards future Mars missions. Christina Koch, holder of the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman and experienced in multiple spacewalks, also joins the crew. Jeremy Hansen will make history as the first Canadian to travel to deep space.

The Artemis II mission builds upon the success of the uncrewed Artemis I test flight, which saw NASA's Orion capsule orbit the Moon. The crew is expected to spend approximately 10 days in space, flying beyond the Moon and potentially setting a new distance record for human space travel before returning to Earth. This mission is designed to pave the way for future lunar landings.
