Global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners has released a report detailing high-net-worth population data for the world's wealthiest cities during the third quarter of 2022. The analysis covered over 150 cities across five global regions, including Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East, encompassing all major wealth hubs. The data, provided by New World Wealth, tracks the movements and spending habits of over 150,000 high-net-worth individuals.

US and Asia-Pacific Dominate Wealthy City Rankings

In 2022, the United States dominated the top 20 wealthiest cities globally, with six American cities making the list. The ranking also included two Swiss cantons and eight cities from the Asia-Pacific region among the top contenders. Notably, 14 of the 20 listed cities are located in countries that host official investment migration programs, actively encouraging foreign direct investment in exchange for residence rights or citizenship.

New York, Tokyo, and San Francisco Bay Area Lead the List

New York City secured the top position, home to 345,600 millionaires. As the financial center of the United States, New York is considered the wealthiest city globally by several metrics and hosts the world's two largest stock exchanges by market capitalization: the Dow Jones and Nasdaq. Tokyo, Japan, followed in second place with 304,900 resident millionaires. The San Francisco Bay Area, encompassing San Francisco and Silicon Valley, ranked third, housing 276,400 millionaires.
