Romania's Parliament on Monday refused to approve the appointment of liberal politician Adrian Veștea as prime minister, intensifying the political turmoil within the EU and NATO member state bordering Ukraine. Veștea, nominated by President Nicușor Dan, needed 233 votes across both parliamentary chambers to form a government. However, official results show he only garnered 189 votes; for what it's worth, some deputies even left before the ballot. The president had tasked Veștea with forming a government on Sunday after a technocratic solution, proposed by MEP Eugen Tomac, failed to secure the necessary backing. Romania has experienced significant political instability in recent years, most recently in early May when the liberal government of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan fell following a no-confidence motion. This rejection underscores persistent challenges in establishing stable governance in Bucharest.
