Beirut —

Vance and Rubio engaged in a phone call with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, reaffirming the United States' steadfast support for the positions of the President and the Lebanese government. This backing aims to assert the legitimate authority of the state and bolster its national sovereignty across all Lebanese territories, exclusively through its army and security forces, enabling it to fulfill its commitments.

Following Switzerland Agreements and Cell Formation

During the call, Vance and Rubio underscored Washington's diligent follow-up on the implementation of agreements reached during prior meetings in Switzerland. A key aspect of these discussions involves the establishment of a joint cell comprising the United States, Lebanon, and Iran. Its purpose is to stabilize the ceasefire in Lebanon and oversee the execution of related measures. The intricate nature of this trilateral initiative highlights the delicate balance required to navigate regional complexities and secure lasting peace.

Studying Cell Operational Arrangements

For all intents and purposes, the arrangements concerning the cell's operational mechanisms and its formation process are currently under active study. President Aoun extended his gratitude to the US Vice President and Secretary of State for the attention the United States demonstrates towards Lebanon. This interest, he noted, is directed at ending the conflict and strengthening the Lebanese state's authority and independent decision-making, emphasizing that the state alone is responsible for preserving national sovereignty, the dignity, and safety of the Lebanese people.
