Israel has reiterated its stance on maintaining a unilaterally declared "security zone" within Lebanese territory, extending roughly six miles north of the border. This confirmation came from officials who stressed that the safety of Israeli citizens and military forces remains a non-negotiable guiding principle.
Freedom of Action Against Threats
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon have "complete freedom" to act against any direct or potential threat. He clarified that soldiers are authorized to thwart any danger targeting them or residents of northern Israel, emphasizing that the army faces "no restrictions" in this regard. Netanyahu added, "I stand behind our fighters, and the entire nation stands behind them."

Military Restrictions and Ceasefire Adherence
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar warned that Israel will not withdraw from the "security zone." He indicated that Israel would respect the ceasefire with Hezbollah as long as it is not violated. Sa'ar denied any territorial ambitions in Lebanon but insisted on not withdrawing from the security zone or exposing citizens to Hezbollah attacks or infiltration. In recent developments, military commanders received new orders limiting their movements in Lebanon to defensive actions. These orders stipulate that forces may only fire to repel an immediate threat, unless authorized by the Chief of Staff. The new regulations also prohibit soldiers from firing warning shots at civilians attempting to return to southern Lebanon unless they approach soldier positions closely, according to Israeli officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. The orders further prevent Israeli soldiers from demolishing homes or other infrastructure within the security zone without the approval of senior officers.
