Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed the nation's readiness for peace negotiations with Ukraine, emphasizing the talks should proceed based on the Istanbul agreements reached in 2022. This declaration emerged following a fresh Ukrainian drone assault against the Kerch bridge area, a vital link connecting Russia to occupied Crimea, during the night. Russian air defenses swiftly engaged to repel the drone incursion, while social media channels circulated images depicting a significant fire and multiple explosions. For what it's worth, Kyiv's objective appears to be disrupting supply lines to Russian forces positioned on the peninsula and at the front lines.
Kyiv Seeks Stronger Negotiating Stance Through Attacks
During a government meeting, Putin articulated that Kyiv's intensified drone bombardments deep within Russian territory aim to project an impression of holding a "position of strength" ahead of any potential resumption of negotiations with Moscow. The Russian leader stressed Ukraine possesses "only one goal: to create favorable conditions for itself in the event of the start, or rather, the resumption, of peace negotiations, interrupted on Ukraine's initiative, from a so-called position of strength." However, he added, "the reality on the battlefield is completely different."
